The short version: your contacts and replies stay on your Mac. The app contacts our server once a day to check your license. Payments are handled by Stripe.
What stays on your Mac
TextDirectly runs on your Mac. Your lists, contacts, messages, replies, delivery history, do-not-text list and settings are stored in a folder on your Mac (in your user Library under Application Support). We do not receive copies of them.
To see delivery status and replies, the app reads your Messages history on your Mac, with the Full Disk Access permission you grant. If you import from Mac Contacts, it reads the groups you pick, with the Contacts permission you grant. That information stays on your Mac.
What the app sends to us
- License checks. When you enter a Pro license key, the app sends the key and a random ID made on your Mac to our server, so we can confirm the key and limit it to 2 Macs. After that it checks the license about once a day. Like any internet request, these also include your IP address.
- Opening links. When you click Upgrade or Manage billing in the app, your browser opens our website and Stripe.
The app does not send us your contacts, your lists, your messages or your replies.
Texts you send
Your texts are sent by the Messages app on your Mac, through Apple's iMessage service and your phone carrier, the same as texts you send by hand. Apple and your carrier handle them under their own terms and privacy policies.
When you buy Pro
Payments are processed by Stripe. We never see or store your full card number. From Stripe we receive your email address, a customer ID and the status of your subscription. We use these to create your license key, email it to you, and keep Pro on while you are subscribed. We send the license email through our email provider, Resend.
This website
When you visit, our hosting provider keeps standard server logs, like your IP address, browser type and the pages you asked for. If you join the Windows waitlist, we store your email address and use it only to tell you when TextDirectly is available for Windows.
How long we keep it
We keep license and subscription records while you are a customer, and afterwards as needed for tax and accounting. You can ask us to delete your waitlist email or your license record at any time, unless we must keep it by law.
Your choices
- Delete your local data by deleting the TextDirectly folder in Application Support on your Mac.
- Turn off permissions any time in System Settings > Privacy & Security.
- Ask us what we hold about you, or ask us to correct or delete it, by emailing support@textdirectly.com.
Children
TextDirectly is for businesses and is not meant for anyone under 18.
Changes
If we change how we handle data, we will update this page and the date at the top.
